Survivor Queen?!? HUH?

I had to revert back to looking through my moleskine to get some writing mojo. I just came across a little entry I wrote while I was up in Schaumburg, IL for some sales training.

It must have been my second night in my hotel room because I got to the hotel way too late on the first night and I just passed out. But, it was 11:00PM and I was channel surfing through the small amount of channels this hotel had and came across Oprah. I have no idea why Oprah was on at 11 o’clock at night. Maybe they have a 24-hour Oprah channel in the Chicago-land area? I really don’t remember why I stopped on this channel but Oprah gave a little tease of what was up next after the commercials.

She was talking about survival and what you would do in certain situations to survive. I thought to myself, “Self? This should be pretty cool.” Considering I like surviving in all situations and the guest is probably someone cool like Les Stroud. Do you know who it was? LEEZA GIBBONS?!?!? WTF? Did she recently become the ‘survival queen’ and I didn’t get the memo? Needless to say, I was too aghast to continue watching. So, I ended up watching something else as I fell asleep dreaming of being stuck on the roof of a high rise inferno as Leeza swooped down to save me. Good times. . .

We hope you enjoyed the beer, oh, like I mean the movie, eh.

I have hit a dry spell. No inspiration whatsoever. What does one do if one is feeling some mental constipation? I guess I’ll just consult my trusty, dusty, molded-to-my-butt-from-being-in-my-backpocket moleskine to see if I wrote down any thought provoking ideations that have been written down but not yet vomited up here in my little acre of blogsburg

Let’s see here . . . hmmmm . . .

  • two wireless lavalieres in the Acorn Ballroom
  • conference speaker phone in room #423

. . . oh, I guess I use this thing for work related things too.

Here’s something:

I watch a lot of T.V. and movies. Next to hiding up in my little man-nook on my mac it’s another past-time I really enjoy. The only thing it has really done for me is make me a decent teammate on a trivia team. Heck, my brother and I would play a game we called “Vague Movie Reference” where we’d say some vague line from some vague movie and the other would have to guess the film. For example:

“I was like a one-man army, like Charlton Heston in “Omega Man.” You ever see it? Beauty.”

Any guesses?

With all of my productive hours of watching I have become pretty good at spotting actors that have been in many different roles in many different movies or T.V. shows.

“Oh hey! That’s the guy that played the dead body in ‘Law & Order’!” or “Look! She played the girlfriend of Jerry Seinfeld that one time.”

Well, why should I be surprised that, one night, when ‘30 Rock‘ was on the Young Extroverted One yelled out, “Hey! That’s Mister Conductor in my Thomas Movie!” She was referring to Alec Baldwin, of course. She wasn’t even sitting down watching ’30 Rock’ she was walking by the boob-tube on her way to bed. Maybe that useless skill that I have is genetic.

Kids are pretty cool. Well, at least mine is! =)

Spring Break Adventures

This is pretty old news but worth writing about.

All of which would have been forgotten if it had not been for my trusty Moleskine Pocket-sized Ruled Notebook. Yay for pens, paper and no short-term memory!

The Young Extroverted One’s spring break was a week later than the Elder Extroverted Holy One’s. So, we had to scramble to line up some ways of childcaring while we were working. Luckily, I was off on Days Three and Four!

Day One: Hanging out with her bud Griffin at Natural Fields Farm. Then over to her grandmother’s house for the night and most of the next day.

Day Two: See above.

Day Three: Off we went to the Nashville Public Library for Story Time. After story time we browsed the stacks for a little while and found some books and a DVD. When we were done there we decided to hit the Mellow Mushroom mainly because I wanted a beer with lunch but also to try to have lunch with EEHO since it was near the divinity school. My cell phone calls were ignored so YEO and I had a lovely lunch.

After a little digestion at home we headed out to Shelby Park and Shelby Bottoms for the YEO to ride her bike. Considering that we’ve never been to Shelby Bottoms we just decided to walk it orI walked it and she rode on my shoulders. It’s pretty nice out there along the Cumberland River. Plus, they’re in the process of building a nature center.

After my lovely, laden walk we hit the new ice cream joint in East Nashville called the Pied Piper Creamery . All I have to say about this place is MMMMMmmmmmm . . . me likey. I think the YEO liked it too.

Day Four: We went to the Nashville Zoo ! Unfortunately, so did everyone else. Beside the crowdedness, which I LOVE, it was very fun and the weather was, in YEO’s words, “AWESOME!” After zoo time we went home waited for EEHO to get home and we took her to the Pied Piper Creamery. Another convert was made that evening.

Day Five: Was spent with the EEHO and they went to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts . I had to go back to work so I can’t report on that trip.

Day Six: Was a Saturday and we had planned a cook-out and general family/dog fun time back out at Natural Fields Farm with the Say crew and a couple of other families. Good food, good beer, creek time, good beer, bratwurst, dogs, ticks, good beer. I’m pretty sure it happened just like that. Really, all that I remember were the bratwurst and the beer and, I believe, nobody got hurt.

No zoo animals or naturally grown foods were harmed during these adventures.
